The nights are drawing in and the days are getting shorter. The days may seem duller and darker at this time of the year but we can bring our own light into our home. This is the time to light candles, lanterns and lamps in our home and enjoy their warmth and colour.

In late autumn and early winter, many cultures celebrate a festival of light as a reminder of the upcoming Winter solstice. For example, Diwali, a Hindu festival which celebrates the victory of light over darkness. In France and Germany people celebrate Martinmas, the festival of lights and lanterns. People get together, tell stories, sing songs about light and lanterns. When I used to work in a Waldorf school, we created a lantern walk for the children through the woods which was a magical experience both for the children and adults.

This is a time for us to come together and bring the light out through creativity and story telling. I have a story prepared for you but I also look forward to hearing your favourite stories.

In this workshop we will decorate glass jars and transform them into lanterns. We will use acrylic paints and decoupage/ decoupatch technique. If you don’t like candles or fire, you are welcome to use electric candles or just display your bright lantern on a windowsill and let the sun shine through the colourful surface.

Looking forward to creating together and seeing your bright and colourful artwork.

Children are welcome under adult supervision. This workshop is more suitable for children 8+.
